MC2MC Live: Transformers of the Digital Age

On November 13th I had the pleasure of attending and speaking at MC2MC Live: Transformers of the Digital Age in Kontich, Belgium.
I’ll be honest — I didn’t really know what to expect going in. I’d never been to an MC2MC event before, and the drive was… long. But from the moment I arrived, the people made it absolutely worth it. The venue (Main D’Or) was great, the sessions were solid, and the overall quality of the event was better than I expected — and I don’t mean that in a negative way, I just genuinely didn’t know what I was walking into.
A special shout-out to Wim Matthyssen for being my personal guide throughout the day. It makes a huge difference when someone takes the time to make you feel welcome at an event you’re attending for the first time.
The Sessions
The evening featured four sessions covering a nice mix of endpoint security, cloud monitoring, identity governance, and DevSecOps.
A Practical Guide to Application Control for Business
Kim Oppalfens & Tom Degreef | Level 300 | Endpoint / Security
Kim and Tom kicked off the evening with a hands-on session about deploying Windows Defender Application Control (WDAC) using Microsoft Intune. They walked through the journey from WDAC novice to confident implementer — covering how to craft your first base policy, using Intune as a managed installer, the synergy between Windows Autopilot and WDAC, and the common pitfalls they encountered along the way. Practical, story-driven, and with real-world examples — exactly the kind of session that gives you a roadmap to go back and actually implement it.
MC2MC Rocket Talk: Azure Monitor Baseline Alerting — Taming the Dragon with Minimal Effort
Robert Prüst (that’s me 😊) | Level 200 | Cloud / Hybrid Cloud
This was my session. I did a Rocket Talk on the Azure Monitor Baseline Alerting (AMBA) Framework — a set of Azure Policy templates provided by Microsoft to get Azure Monitoring up and running for your environment without having to build everything from scratch. I covered the different patterns and scenarios AMBA supports and how, with some extra PowerShell magic, you can keep your Azure environment in control. If this topic sounds interesting, I’ve also written about policy-based alerting in a previous post.
(Pun Intended) Identity Security on Autopilot: The Importance of Identity Governance for ID Security
Michael Van Horenbeeck | Level 300 | Security
Michael made the case for Identity Governance as a foundational pillar of any modern security strategy. His point was clear: security isn’t just about stopping threats — it’s about knowing who has access, why, and whether that access is still appropriate. He walked through Microsoft Entra’s Identity Governance capabilities, from access reviews to entitlement management and lifecycle workflows, all aimed at enforcing least privilege and closing the gaps that attackers love to exploit.
ClickOps to DevSecOps
Patrik Soderstrom & Johan Soetewey | Level 300 | Cloud / Hybrid Cloud
Patrik and Johan closed out the evening with a two-part session. Patrik started by explaining the journey from ClickOps to DevSecOps — what the strengths and drawbacks are — with real-world examples. Then Johan took over with a demo on using Bicep to export an existing Azure infrastructure, applying IaC best practices to the export, and importing the modified result back. A great practical session for anyone looking to move away from portal-clicking and towards proper infrastructure as code.
The Takeaway
What made this event stand out for me wasn’t just the technical content — it was the people. The MC2MC community is welcoming, the organizers clearly care about the quality of what they put together, and the atmosphere was one of genuine knowledge sharing. It felt like an evening among colleagues rather than a formal conference.
Thanks to the MC2MC organizers for putting this together. I hope to be back!
Happy scripting 😊
